Risperidone dose optimisation switch patient letter

Dear Patient

The NHS carries out regular reviews of medicines to make sure that patients continue to receive high quality and effective treatment that costs the NHS less.

We are sharing this letter with you following a review between yourself and a member of our team, where we discussed making this change. A helpful benefit is that you will now take fewer tablets to get the same dose of your medicine. The full details of the change are shown below and this change in your medication will be given to you when you collect your next repeat prescription.

WHAT YOU TAKE NOW

WHAT IT WILL CHANGE TO

Risperidone 250 microgram tablets

Risperidone 500 microgram tablets

2 tablets ONCE Daily (Delete as appropriate).

1 tablet ONCE Daily (Delete as appropriate).

2 tablets TWICE daily (Delete as appropriate).

1 tablet TWICE daily (Delete as appropriate).

The new medication is the same as your old medication. However, the strength and therefore the number of tablets will change. This means you will now take one risperidone 500 microgram tablet once daily in place of your previous two risperidone 250 microgram tablets ONCE daily / ONE risperidone 500 microgram tablet twice daily in place of your previous TWO risperidone 250 microgram tablets twice daily (Delete as appropriate). Please finish taking all of the tablets that you currently have before starting on the new supply.

To obtain your next supply of medicines more efficiently, you can order a repeat prescription by logging into your account using the NHS app which may be downloaded from the NHS website.  We would also like to take this opportunity to remind you to only order the medicines you need each time you resubmit your repeat prescription request as this helps minimise medicine waste.

If you are concerned or wish to discuss the matter further, please do not hesitate to contact the practice or community pharmacy.

Yours sincerely
