Biological Mesh

Biological meshes have been used in a variety of reconstructive surgical procedures. The Priorities Forum has considered the evidence of clinical and cost-effectiveness for use of Biological Mesh in complex and contaminated abdominal wall repair. 

Use of biological mesh in abdominal wall hernia repair or closure of laparostomy will not routinely be separately funded as an exclusion from payment by results, due to insufficient evidence of clinical or cost effectiveness.

All funding requests will only be considered on a case by case basis through the ICB individual funding requests department.
