Motor Neurone Disease (MND)
A diagnosis of MND should be made by a neurologist - If you suspect MND make an urgent referral to neurology and specify the possible diagnosis of MND.
Possible features of MND: (see pathway)
- Respiratory symptoms;
- Limb features;
- Cognitive features (rare at presentation);
- Bulbar features.
Consider referral to Local HCT therapy services including SLT for symptom management (the patient can be referred whilst awaiting investigations and a possible diagnosis of MND)
Include in referral:
- Detailed clinical history;
- Neurological Examination findings (eye and neck where appropriate);
- Details of any communication with neurology team to date
