Acromioclavicular Joint (ACJ)
Please see pathway attached for Acromioclavicular Joint (ACJ) Osteoarthritis (OA)
Confirmed by: Pressure over the ACJ reproducing the pain the patient is complaining of.
• Scarf test being positive and reproducing the pain the patient is complaining of.
History of trauma: X-ray if clinical possibility of fracture. Clinically traumatic dislocation: refer Community MSK
Suspected ACJ OA
PATIENT EDUCATION:
• Leaflet on Osteoarthritis
• Exercise for shoulder pain
• Keep active (think about fit to work –adaptations )
Analgesia and NSAID
If ADL’s affected and not improving after 2-3 weeks consider ACJ
steroid injection
Refer to direct access physio if not improved 2 months
Consider Chronic pain
Consider referral to Community MSK if:
• Not settled with above 6 months
• Patient would consider surgery
• Significantly affecting ADL’s
