The prescribing of Phenindione is restricted to named-patient use only;
prescribed by consultants only in exceptional circumstances—specifically when
warfarin, acenocoumarol, and DOACs are not suitable. The approved RAG status is
Double Red i.e not recommended for prescribing in Community,
Secondary/Tertiary, or Primary Care for all new patients, and should only be
considered on a named-patient basis for a defined cohort as outlined above.
